Course information

The First Growth Sommelier Course is a two-day intensive program that provides a comprehensive review of the world’s wine-producing regions, elements of wine service, and blind-tasting exercises. Designed specifically for Junior Sommeliers in the hospitality industry, this course aims to build a strong foundation in the main wine regions of the world and help participants embark on their sommelier career path. Notably, it is the only sommelier course offered by a wine school in Cyprus. Upon successful completion, the graduates have the right to start working as Junior Sommeliers in the Hospitality Industry.

Diplomas will be awarded and signed by Yiannis Karakasis MW and Sotiris Neophytidis MS (First Cypriot Master Sommelier, Best Sommelier of Cyprus & Best Sommelier of the Balkans, 10th Best Sommelier of the World).

The graduate will be able to:

Recommend wines with ease to guests
Be able to assess the quality of different wines to choose wines for their wine lists
Upselling and achieving growth in wine sales
Serve in a professional manner
Build professional tasting skills

By the end of the course, successful candidates will be able to taste wine and identify as closely as possible the right grape varieties, regions and countries. The students will build a strong understanding of the main grape varieties worldwide and identify the key styles. Candidates will also learn the key principles of food and wine pairing and how to apply these to their workplace.

Do I need any prior knowledge?

Yes, the minimum to access this course is WSET Level 1 and preferably WSET Level 2. All our classes are delivered in English therefore a good level of English is beneficial.

You must be at least 18 years old to enrol in any of our courses.

Booking Terms & Conditions:

Full payment must accompany the booking form as we do not accept provisional bookings and places will only be confirmed once payment is received. Bookings will only be accepted on valid booking forms with a fully completed and signed declaration.

Payment methods: cheque, cash or BANK transfer.

Cancellations of confirmed places are not accepted.

Cancellations within 10 working days are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to another event.

Course fees will be refunded in full if FIRST GROWTH WINE SCHOOL changes a course date or cancels a course if enrollments do not reach the required minimum numbers – notification will be made in the 7 days prior to the planned start date of the course.

Examination dates are fixed to the course onto which you book and any transfer to an alternative date will incur an administration fee of 65.00 Euro + VAT per student. All transfer requests must be made in writing or by email cchristofi@firstgrowth.eu at least 12 working days before the original examination date.

The Examination for WSET Level 1 & 2 Awards can be performed Online (Remote Invigilation) with an extra charge of 69€ (VAT 19% Included).

Upon successful completion examination, a Digital Certificate and Badge will be issued. Applies only for WSET Levels 1 and 2.

The wine samples and educator/s may be subject to change.

The study materials will be delivered in the class.

The cost per course includes all study materials, wine samples, tuition, examination fee (one attempt) and postage of certificate. Re-sit examination fees are not included.

At the start of all WSET examinations, candidates must supply proof of identity in the form of photographic ID. Failure to do so will result in the student not being permitted to take the Exam. Special examination condition requirements due to dyslexia or other medical reasons must be notified prior to the start of the course and supported by a doctor’s certificate or similar
document.

Students and candidates under the legal minimum age for the retail purchase of alcoholic beverages will NOT be permitted to sample any alcoholic beverages as part of their course. This is NOT, however, a barrier for successfully completing the qualification.
